Twitter was much easier to manage when following 100 tweeple....now at more than 300 it's hard to keep up. It's like the "Matrix" and a constant feed that is becoming too much at times. I guess the newer apps with filtering, etc will help the most....Twitter's open API allows developers to create apps that do these things. It's just like Facebook I suppose....it becomes too much after awhile and people do start to tune out....I now use <a href="http://nutshellmail.com" rel="nofollow">nutshellmail.com</a> with Facebook to email me updates so I don't have to login all the time. It also becomes easier to keep your name/organization/product on their minds through constant updates. When does that become too much, though?
