So there I was sitting at my desk when I receive a call to come pick up quite a large package in the mail room. Back at my desk, I open it up only to find the box of a brand new 17″ MacBook Pro staring right back at me. Unpleasantly confused, my mind went a little bananas trying to figure out why this beautiful machine was in my possession.

Replacing my short-lived moment of excitement was the fact I already owned a shiny 17″ MacBook Pro purchased just a few months ago.

But not to worry—the shipping receipt had the correct name. Fortunately, The Google easily figured out that the package belonged to a local business owner here in Syracuse. His assistant was here within minutes after calling his office to disclose the news—along with a very appreciative note and Dunkin’ Donuts gift card.

I’m just a bit over-excited about the recent announcement over at TUAW that the Sirius-XM iPhone app is finally on its way:

Sirius XM has revealed a screen shot of the soon to be released iPhone/iPod touch app that will stream the satellite channels to eager listeners.

Why the excitement?

Because—well—I’ve been waiting for well over a year along with every other Sirius and XM satellite radio subscriber. Yeah, it’s great that I can listen to the Sirius-XM stream at home or work using the Pulsar mac app, but in the car I’m stuck with using either Pandora or Last.fm (both are great for finding new music, but the streams are lower quality than I can deal with at times).

TUAW reports that the app will be free (yippie!), but requires a $3 per month streaming subscription. Not sure if this means my current internet streaming subscription counts, but we shall see in the coming months…

Shape of Things to Come [WSJ.com]

The iPod shape trademark gives Apple a new weapon in the fiercely competitive market for media players. While competitors may eventually appropriate the iPod’s inner workings, as utility patents expire, they will risk litigation if their products come too close to the trademarked shape of the iPod, including its popular circular-touchpad interface.

PC Magazine gave Apple’s 10.5.2 Leopard operating system an Editor’s Choice award and a stunning review. I have to say, I’ve been using a Mac since I was a kid and things just keep getting better and better. Hands down, I think that Leopard is the best so far and my roommate agrees—he became a convert over the weekend and bought a new MacBook. All I’ve been hearing is “oh my God” and “wow, that is so cool” coming from him since he turned it on. And the new screen sharing with iChat….let me just say that I no longer have to run to the other end of the apartment to show him how to do something. Never realized how useful that could be. As PC Mag writes:

Despite minor problems, it’s by far the best operating system ever written for the vast majority of consumers, with dozens of new features that have real practical value—like truly automated backups, document and spreadsheet preview images in folders, and notes and to-do lists integrated into the mail program.
